We think that one of the biggest challenges as a bride is the big day coordination. (“Ok we need hair and makeup for 10, plus mother of the bride, mother of the groom, the flower girls, the wait staff, the clean up staff”… you get the picture.) It can be extremely frustrating to try to figure out how to accommodate everyone and their mother (literally) AND be ready to go for pictures by 2:00pm. That’s why we love Les Cheveux! Sherman and his staff can accommodate everything under the sun, from hair to makeup; nails to spa services. (They just recently expanded their already enormous facility with a spa!) We love the fact that it’s a “one stop shop” kind of place! They have two professionally trained makeup artists and 18 hair stylists- so we think that this is the perfect place to bring the whole gang for a day of beauty. (Not to mention, they have a travel team that will come to you if necessary- perfect for that special event on the lake!) Between the fantastic product lines, and the tenured experience, Les Cheveux can truly accommodate all hair and skin types, while giving impeccable service, in a fun and upbeat environment!


Our “day of beauty” consisted of having our hair done as if it was our special day, along with a full make up application. The professional staff knew just what to do, they asked the right questions and we felt we were in the right hands for wanting to look our best as if we were about to walk down the aisle.

Let’s face it, you don’t normally wear an up-do or do anything out of the ordinary with your hair, nor do you wear “camera-ready” makeup (and if you do we need to talk). But for the day when you’ll be front and center (and also need to be picture perfect because make up for in front of the camera is something best left to the professionals)… your normal regime isn’t going to cut it.

Bring in tons of photos, pages from magazines, anything with ideas of what you are thinking for both your hair and makeup. (And don’t worry if you don’t have any, because they can help you with the perfect look.) (Bella Hint #3: Their makeup artists can also cover tattoos and scars along with the inevitable wedding day zit.)

Right before you feel the “bridezilla” seeping from your pores we suggest making an appointment at Divinity to “de-bride” and de-stress. Relaxing is one of the best ways to make you look your best on your special day. But with all the overseeing of details we know it’s hard to find the time to just relax. So when you set the date for the wedding, call Divinity and set the date for your day of pampering! You will thank us for this suggestion later. (Bella Hint #2: Come the week before your event for any skin care treatments.)


This Aveda Lifestyle salon and spa is unlike any other spa around. It truly rivals spas found in bigger cities—and even renowned resorts known worldwide for their spas. They can do everything you’d need for looking your best from head to toe. Their soothing, pampering environment will help your stress disappear. We went to Divinity for our treatments with the intent of showing you a few options in “de-stressing” before the big day. (Yes, it was hard work, but we “suffered” and are here to report to you what we learned.)

Joey had the Caribbean Therapy Body Treatment and their signature Green Science Facial.

The Caribbean Treatment consists of rigorous exfoliation of your entire body with a scented salt scrub, a seaweed body wrap to help soften your skin and remove toxins and it’s all washed off with their Vichy (vee-shee) Rain Shower… followed with full body massage. And it’s as great as it sounds.

The Vichy rain shower is a multi-head shower that sprays pressure points and other areas of your body at once while you are lying down. In case you’re wondering, you are discreetly covered and at no point are you ever just laying there exposed. (You can wear a bathing suit or underwear if you feel more comfortable, but honestly, that will be more of a nuisance than anything.) It’s an unbelievable treatment and we highly recommend it. The entire procedure lasts two hours! (Joey: “Of all spa treatments I’ve ever had in any spa ANYWHERE, the Caribbean Therapy Body Treatment at Divinity is THE BEST ONE. Period.”)

The other service Joey tried was the Aveda Green Science facial that treats signs of aging with their clinically proven plant-based skin care and high touch skin rejuvenation techniques. The Green Science line is their most aggressive and her skin was glowing and radiant as soon as Sara was finished. The Green Science line is an amazing group of natural products and to have them professionally applied along with their deep cleansing masques and facial massages is quite a treat.

Amy went for the Rosemary Mint Awakening Body Wrap and also had the Euphoric Hot Stone Massage.

“Ok for the record, the Hot Stone Massage was the best massage I have ever had! The heat and pressure, combined with Aveda’s famous rituals, made for the perfect experience! I loved the Rosemary Mint Wrap, because I’m in love with the fragrance… it made my skin so smooth and invigorated!”

Take the time for yourself (or bring your spouse-to-be along too) and enjoy Divinity. A wonderful spa located right here in our region! (It’s just off Route 460 and I-81 so you can conveniently get to it from anywhere.)

Yes, we are aware that there is a nail salon on just about every corner. But you are getting ready for your special day so go someplace special. We suggest Polished—the hip new nail boutique owned by the ever-fabulous Laura Bradford Godfrey , who just so happens to also own Claire V. (You know those great handbags! Also a great idea for wedding party gifts and fabulous enough to be coordinated with the bridesmaids dresses and carried during the ceremony… Bella Hint #1!)


We went to Polished with the intent on a “day before to get a manicure and pedicure” however, our new suggestion is to bring all the girls in your wedding party along with you and make an event of it. This delicious boutique can accommodate your girls and is within walking distance of Hotel Roanoke so make it a kick-off to the bachelorette party or a morning of bridal party event! Champagne, chocolate and cupcakes round out your experience too! (Just call them! They can custom create any number of ideas for you.)

What we like about this urban, chic environment is that it’s an indulgent experience and not just a treatment. You begin by selecting your own scent to be used in your lotions, scrubs and oils during your services. There are ten choices from detoxifying White Tea and Ginger to a nourishing Sugar Cookie so it may take a while to decide!

We both had the Polished Diva Mani and Pedi’s. What we liked most about being at Polished is not only did we get good manicures and pedicures, but the atmosphere is unlike any other salon around. It’s almost as if you’re on a cloud—or inside a cupcake! It’s delicious… and you feel good just being there. (Through their partnership with Bethany Hall, a local recovery center for women, Polished is able to provide assistance to women who deserve a second chance.)
